Things You Don’t Hear at Podcast Conferences- Listening followed by Conversation

  • Royal Victoria Hotel Marina Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN38 United Kingdom (map)

Produced especially for the inaugural XMTR festival, Lina Prestwood (founder Scenery Studios) will be sharing a collage of voices from an incredible international roster of podcast producers, all of whom have first hand experience of juggling their love of creative, experimental audio and the demands of increasingly risk-averse podcast space.

Expect tea, biscuits and voice notes from some of the podcast industry’s most interesting minds, followed by an informal conversation about what we’ve heard…

… and how we can all make a living in a creative medium that may once described as the Wild West but for many now feels like an impenetrable glass office on the top floor of a corporate skyscraper.

Sharing their thoughts and experiences around the tension between creativity and commerce in the so-called ‘Podscape’ are:

Talia Augustidis / Jasmin Bauomy / Benbrick / Davy Gardner / Sarah Geis / Axel Kakoutié / Starlee Kine / Anna Sinfield / Julie Shapiro  / Shreya Sharma / Deborah Shorinde / Ross Sutherland

This will be followed by an informal conversation facilitated by Lina and Lucia Scazzocchio (Social Broadcasts / XMTR).

Why are we doing this?

Because many - although #definitelynotall - audio conferences can feel like weirdly incongruent spaces; there’s more than a whiff of the corporate when the keynote speeches are being given by men who look like they were born in the boardroom celebrating the exciting growth! growth! growth! of the audio space whilst claiming to champion and bolster the indie spirit… delivered to an audience of indie producers struggling to pitch shows that aren’t about murdered women or celebrities talking about food/ well-being/ themselves.

Plus, there’s rarely any audio.

Lucia and Lina worked together to produce Lowlines - Lowlines is a 100% independent, 100% female production that follows Petra Barran, as she travels solo through the Americas, meeting people with profound connections to the places they’re from.

Open to anyone connected or interested in the podcast and audio world. This will be THE conversation we need to be having.
