A portrait of Trev ‘The Pianoman’ Woodison, one of the last remaining traditional pub piano players in the UK. He's on a mission to keep the art of pub piano alive. Playing piano in pubs is no ordinary gig: Trev never knows what he's going to play until he turns up on the night, it's up to the audience to choose and for Trev to improvise on the spot. This audio piece invites listeners to join Trev down the pub as he explains what it takes to be a pub piano entertainer.

Lena von Holt usually doesn’t sing. But since she started hearing people sing everywhere, she felt challenged to sing, too. So she tried, again.

THE ECCO is an international non-commercial initiative designed to tug at the boundaries of the world of audio storytelling, journalism, and documentary work. They bring together talents in different parts of the world — journalists, sound designers, audio producers, sound artists, & writers— all united by a common goal: to push themselves and each other out of their work-related comfort zones and explore the different shapes audio documentaries can take, where they may intersect with art and what the impact of such playful exploration can have.

This was made during an immersive retreat where a curated group of talents collaborate, experiment, and support each other in crafting audio projects that are as diverse as they are profound

Time & Again: Mike

Jack Suddaby (UK 2022)

Jack Suddaby (UK 2022)

14 min

How does it feel to come of age in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged neighbourhoods? What really drives inner city crime? What’s it like being sent to jail at a young age and released with nothing? We hear a lot about the issues of gangs, youth crime and county lines, but we hardly ever hear from the people with the best insight of all: young prison leavers themselves.

This is Mike's story - how he makes ends meet with fake money, goes inside and then learns to make coffee.

Produced by Jack Suddaby (Beautiful Strangers)

All men in this series have been supported by award-winning rehabilitation charity Switchback.

In an undisclosed alley, a diver finds divinity among the dumpsters. Bada bing, bada boom! Who knew dumpster diving could be so lucrative?

This series of short audio portraits from Chicago draws from the long lineage of oral history recording in the city, perhaps inspired by the likes of Studs Terkel and the assumption that everyone has a story if you just ask.

Pandora is an episode of Everyone Else, an audio-visual oral history project telling the stories of strangers. Each episode is dedicated to one speaker, their words edited to ambient sound design and music.

In this episode, a man recalls the summer of 1965 when he decided to track down and write to an iconic flapper and actress of the 1920s, after reading her article in a magazine.

A surprising love story that shifts from fantasy to reality from this award winning podcast, proving that everyone has a story if they are just listened to in the right way.
