Masterclass: Field Recordings, But Better with Isobel Anderson

  • OBX, Observer Building 53 Cambridge Road Hastings, England, TN34 1DT United Kingdom (map)

EQ and mixing techniques to elevate your soundscapes
Field recordings have become evermore popular as an audio storytelling device in music, sound art, radio and beyond. But once you’ve captured these unique and evocative sounds, elevating them into the textures and atmospheres we envision can seem like an illusive process.

In this masterclass, Isobel Anderson will demonstrate how your humble but mighty EQ plug-in will do everything from gently polish - to totally subvert - your field recordings. This will be coupled with mixing techniques for more soundscape sculpting control, sparking your inspiration for what’s possible with field recordings in your audio projects.

Between her 20+ years making, performing and producing music, a PhD in Sonic Arts and a passion for creating supportive music tech education spaces for women, Isobel's career embraces a sense of independence and experimentation.
Her four solo albums have amassed nearly 30 million Spotify streams, her sound works have been performed on international stages and she has published on the topics of field recording, narrative sound and sonic human geography in academic journals, such as Organised Sound and The Journal of Sonic Studies.
Threaded throughout her work is a sound-making practice infused with environmental sound, experimental production techniques and voice and a fascination for what it means to be a human in this world.
Isobel is proud to produce and host the critically acclaimed feminist music tech podcast, Girls Twiddling Knobs.
