Life Sentence: Ed Baxter & Anthony Moore - Live Radio Art Performance

  • Electro Studios Seaside Road Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN38 United Kingdom (map)

In The Ninth Bridgewater Treatise (1837) the Victorian polymath Charles Babbage suggested that "The air itself is one vast library. One, on whose pages are forever written all that woman or man has ever said or whispered." This thought is the basis of Anthony Moore's composition "Hello, this is a sentence" on a live performance of which this digressive and deconstructionist broadcast by Anthony and Ed Baxter is in turn based. Life Sentence explores the way in which words both enter the memory of the hearer and continue into the air and addresses the mode of half listening that applies to the medium of radio.

Anthony Moore is a composer/musician, now based in the UK, formerly professor and founder of the music department at the Academy of Arts Cologne in the department of Art and Media Sciences working on the historical, anthropological and technical aspects of sound, noise and music. Rector of the Academy in Cologne between 2000 and 2004. Initiator and art director of sound events, "per→SON" and “Nocturnes Cologne” until 2015. He continues to write, record and perform, operating across many genres; ambient drone, musique concrète, electroacoustic, multi-channel sound installations and releases work on various labels such as Touch, Drag City (Chicago), P-Vine (Tokyo) and others.
