For XMTR.FM Felix will share the joy of listening to knitting patterns with her trusty music box.
Felix transposes knitting charts onto punch-cards that can then be played through a music box. This allows us to hear knitwear motifs through patterns of pitch and rhythm. Join Felix in the beach hut between 2 - 4pm on Friday 27th to make a punch-card featuring your favourite knitting chart, or to browse her selection of punch-cards and listen to the sound worlds they reveal.
Felicity (Felix) Ford works with knitting and sound under her KNITSONIK moniker to celebrate and elevate the everyday. In the knitting world she is known for her books and classes that share her methods for commemorating daily life in stranded colourwork, while her work with sound uses field recordings and interviews to explore a range of social contexts. Selected works include giving voice to Catherine Dickens for the Charles Dickens Museum (Hearing Catherine); exploring the materials used in Richard Tuttle’s textile installation at TATE Modern (Sonic Weave . Exploring Silk and Viscose Through Sound) and mapping the sounds of Shetland’s vibrant and living wool industry for Shetland Wool Week (Listening to Shetland Oo).
