Hurd - A Knitsonik Installation by Felicity (Felix) Ford

  • Dandelion Cafe (Downstairs) 14 Kings Road Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN37 6EA United Kingdom (map)

Felix presents a reworked version of Hûrd – A KNITSONIK™ PRODUKTION. 32 miniature speakers are covered in traceable wool from sheep farms located in Cumbria, Shetland, and Sussex. Through this cloud of speakers, wires and wool, play sounds from the communities and places where the wool was grown.

Felicity (Felix) Ford works with knitting and sound under her KNITSONIK moniker to celebrate and elevate the everyday. In the knitting world she is known for her books and classes that share her methods for commemorating daily life in stranded colourwork, while her work with sound uses field recordings and interviews to explore a range of social contexts. Selected works include giving voice to Catherine Dickens for the Charles Dickens Museum (Hearing Catherine); exploring the materials used in Richard Tuttle’s textile installation at TATE Modern (Sonic Weave . Exploring Silk and Viscose Through Sound) and mapping the sounds of Shetland’s vibrant and living wool industry for Shetland Wool Week (Listening to Shetland Oo).
